Hilltop Junie G
Hilltop Junie G is grinding hard, flipping work and ‘Getting Mail’ with his hot new single.

Born in the Chicagoland area, Hilltop Junie G was only three years old when he discovered his love of music and began playing drums. The rhyming came later. By the age of ten, Hilltop Junie G had written his first verse and he’s been steady grinding ever since. With an unswerving work ethic and enough creative juice to rival Tropicana, Hilltop Junie G has been producing intoxicating rap cocktails, blending hard-edged lyrics with a lemon twist of biting street humor. Judging by the listener response to his debut radio single 'Getting Mail', the people are drinking it up. Independent reporter Lily Clark recently caught up with Hilltop Junie G to learn more about this rising rap star and to get a crash course herself on ‘getting mail’.

LILY: When When did you first discover your love of music?
HILLTOP JUNIE G: I first discovered my love of music at 3 years old, I began playing drums and as time progressed, I began rhyming words. I wrote my first verse when I was about 10 years old.

LILY: Your song 'Getting Mail' is receiving a positive listener response on radio. What was your initial reaction when you first heard your song playing on radio?
HILLTOP JUNIE G: When I heard my song ‘Getting Mail’ being played on the radio, my initial reaction was to keep it coming- hard work and dedication pays off.

LILY: What was the inspiration behind your debut radio single?
HILLTOP JUNIE G: The inspiration behind the single was the music grind and being motivated, ‘flipping work’ and ‘steady getting mail’ means being, and staying, motivated. Grind hard at whatever you do and get mail, which is money.

LILY: Would you say that the mood of your other songs is in the same vein as your debut radio single?
HILLTOP JUNIE G: I have a variety of songs, some with that same feel and some with a different feel, this gives the listener options.

LILY: How would you characterize yourself as an artist?
HILLTOP JUNIE G: I characterize myself as hard working and self-motivated. When I’m in the studio it’s all about creativity with a strong work ethic.

LILY: Did you come from a musical background? Are there other artists in your family?
HILLTOP JUNIE G: I come from a musically talented family of musicians and vocalists.

LILY: What do you find most rewarding about being an artist? What do you find most challenging?
HILLTOP JUNIE G: One of the most rewarding things about being an entertainer is career advancement in the business, one thing that I find most challenging is long hours is the studio- but I get the job done.

LILY: Who are your role models in music?
HILLTOP JUNIE G: Doug E Fresh is one of my role models in the music game, along with a variety of entertainers from the old school.

LILY: Describe your best or most memorable performance.
HILLTOP JUNIE G: My most memorable performance was my first show in the Chicago area, as I continue to grow in the music business I am learning and getting better on a daily basis.

LILY: What advice would you give to young, aspiring artists out there who are unsure and need guidance?
HILLTOP JUNIE G: To aspiring artist my best advice would be to do the best you can to live your dreams.
